The award honors outstanding volunteer service by a UC Riverside graduate student.

(April 19, 2012)

MBA student Blake Coffin has been named the 2012 recipient of the Dr. Gordon and Anna Watkins Award.

Established in 1956 in honor of UC Riverside's first provost and his wife, the annual award is presented to a graduating M.A., M.S., MBA, MFA, MEd., or Ph.D. student for outstanding volunteer service to the campus and/or the community.

As president of the MBA Student Association, Coffin has been a consistent participant in volunteer events throughout the past year. He has volunteered at the NSHMBA Career Expo, the Economic Forecast Conference, several Keep Riverside Clean & Beautiful events, a Habitat for Humanity home rehabilitation project and the Ronald McDonald Walk, among many others.

For his work, Coffin will receive a $500 gift ($250 from the UCR Alumni Association and $250 from the Foundation Office), as well as a personal plaque, an inscription on UCR's perpetual plaque and a lifetime membership in the UCR Alumni Association. His name will also be published in this year's commencement program.

"I am very grateful to be receiving this award and very honored," Coffin said. "I want to thank my fellow classmates and fellow student association members for all of their hard work to make this school a better place. I am proud to be a student here among such great people."
