2016 Executive Fellows

Under the leadership of Dean Yunzeng Wang, the UCR School of Business is proud to continue an annual tradition of excellence:  the Executive Fellows program. Founded in 1992, the program aims to connect distinguished business leaders with faculty and students at the UCR School of Business. Fellows are recognized for their executive leadership, professional experience and business expertise.

Fellows guest lecture and are available on campus to consult with faculty and students for one day per quarter. They serve for one year but remain closely connected with the Business School after their term ends.

LyonsMatt D. Lyons '87

Global Equity Trading Manager, The Capital Group

Matt D. Lyons has worked in the equity trading area for The Capital Group since 1995. Currently, he is the Global Equity Trading Manager, responsible for trading operations in the US, Europe and Asia. Matt has worked on the FIX protocol U.S. steering committee, STALA board of directors, NYSE Institutional Trading Advisory, and is currently the chair of the ICI equity markets advisory committee. Matt is a CFA charter holder, and earned a BS in Economics from the University of California, Riverside and an MBA from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business.

Byron Pollitt ’73

CFO of Visa Inc. (retired). Previously CFO of Gap Inc. and CFO of Walt Disney Parks

Byron Pollitt retired as CFO of Visa Inc. in 2015. During his tenure, Visa completed the largest IPO in US history and was added to the Dow 30 Index. Prior to Visa, he served as CFO of Gap Inc. and CFO of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Byron was selected by The Wall Street Journal as one of the Best S&P 500 CFOs and was ranked a Top CFO seven times by Institutional Investor. He currently serves on the Board of Voya Financial and on the Finance Commission of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Business Economics from University of California, Riverside.

 

 

ThomasWilliam E. Thomas 

Executive Vice President and General Counsel, KPC Group

William E. Thomas is the Executive Vice President and General Counsel of the KPC Group of Companies which owns and manages a diversified portfolio of hospitals, medical groups, ancillary medical providers and real estate in Southern California and India. Prior to partnering with the KPC Group, William was the Founding and Managing Partner of the law firm of Thomas, Luebs & Mort in Riverside. Bill is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, received his Juris Doctorate from Hastings College of the Law, and Masters of Law from New York University Law School.

BeverlyBeverly Bailey

President and CEO of Stronghold Engineering 

Beverly Bailey is the president and CEO of Stronghold Engineering, a local international company that provides full-service construction support. Bailey founded the firm 25 years ago, and it is currently ranked in the top ten minority- and women-owned construction companies in the nation. Her success has gained her top awards and achievements such as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Inland Empire in 2000 and the 2016 Enterprising Woman of the Year.

President and CEO of West Valley Bancorp Inc. and West Valley National Bank

Candace Wiest is the president and CEO of West Valley Bancorp Inc. and West Valley National Bank. Formerly, Wiest was the president of Inland Empire National Bank in Riverside, California. In June of 2013, Wiest celebrated her 20th anniversary as a bank CEO. Ms Wiest served twice as a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and was the first woman to be elected as a class A director in the Bank’s 100 year history. Wiest believes that community commitment is the cornerstone of community banking, and serves as a member and director of several organizations.

Patricia Watters, Ph.D.

Co-founder and managing member of Catalina Partners

Patricia Watters is the co-founder and managing member of Catalina Partners. Launched in 2009, Catalina Partners assists private fund managers in strategically developing their operational infrastructures and enhancing their responses for investor due diligence. Catalina Partners also performs non-investment due diligence for foundations, endowments, and other institutional investors. Prior to forming Catalina Partners, Patricia was COO, CCO and managing director at Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company in Irvine, CA. She received a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from the University of Nevada and earned a Ph.D. in financial economics from the University of California, Riverside.

Victor Tolan

President & CEO B&K Precision Group

Victor Tolan defected from communist Romania in 1978 to France and worked for General Motors as a Research and Development Engineer. In the U.S., he worked for Beckman Instruments in California as a research engineer and then as director of Marketing & Sales for a division of ITT. In 1996, he acquired B&K Precision Corporation in Chicago. B&K Precision is an established, large distribution channel and was a well-recognized brand in the U.S. He relocated the company to California, and moved its manufacturing to Taiwan. From 1998 to 2015 the company grew through mergers, acquisitions and organic growth. It now has factories in Nanjing, China; Taipei, Taiwan; and St. Etienne, France, as well as offices in Yorba Linda.

CFO of Ware Malcomb

Mr. Sloane is CFO of Ware Malcomb, a leading national design firm, providing planning, architectural, interior design, graphic design and civil engineering services to commercial real estate and corporate clients throughout the world.  Established in 1972, the firm has 17 offices throughout the United States and Toronto, Panama City, and Mexico City. As the CFO since 2004, Mr. Sloane is an accomplished financial professional and business-savvy leader, bringing over 21 years of experience in financial analytics, accounting, management and operational leadership. He is well known for his strategic and innovative approach to the company’s financial management and growth, with a strong commitment to fiscal discipline to ensure the overall health of the firm.  He holds a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting and a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Business Administration, both from the University of California, Riverside.

bobRobert Stapleton BA ’80, M.B.A. ’82

Entrepreneur and manager

Mr. Robert Stapleton is an entrepreneur and general manager with 25 years of experience in building high-performance organizations. He is a management adviser and investor in portfolio companies of leading private equity firms. Mr. Stapleton co-founded two highly successful public companies, Western Wireless Corporation and VoiceStream Wireless (now-T-Mobile).  Both companies were subsequently acquired for a total value in excess of $30 billion. In 2005, he founded High Road Sports Inc., a sports management company that owned and operated Team HTC-Highroad, the winningest professional cycling team in the world from 2007-2011. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and M.B.A. from UCR School of Business Administration.

susanSusan Atherton BA '77

Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, Humane Society Legislative Fund

Susan D. Atherton, Class of 1977, is on the UCR Board of Trustees. Ms. Atherton served in executive management positions in the enterprise software and cloud computing industries for 25 years, working at NCR Corporation, GE Information Systems, Oracle Corporation, Rightpoint and DoubleClick. Ms. Atherton is the former Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross Bay Area. In 2011 she was the recipient of the coveted American Red Cross Harriman Award, the highest award given to a volunteer within the organization and with only 40 recipients since its inception mid-century. Ms. Atherton currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Humane Society Legislative Fund (Washington, DC), an organization focused on electing animal welfare supportive legislators at all levels of government. Ms. Atherton holds a BS in Administrative Studies and a BA in Economics from the University of California, Riverside. 

TimTimothy Greenleaf BA '78

Managing Director at Fairmont Capital, Inc.  

Mr. Timothy Greenleaf, Class of 1978, is a Managing Director at Fairmont Capital, Inc. Prior to joining Fairmont Capital in 1999, he was a corporate attorney specializing in mergers and acquisitions, and the Chairman of the Tax Department of the Los Angeles law office of Fulbright & Jaworski. He has several years of experience in acquisition and buyouts. Mr. Greenleaf has served on the board of Green Dot Corporation since January 2001, a company he helped take public in 2007. The company is the largest provider of prepaid debit card products and prepaid card reloading services in the United States, as well as a leader in mobile banking with its GoBank mobile bank account offering. Mr. Greenleaf holds a Masters of Law in Taxation from New York University, a JD from Loyola Law School and a dual BA with high honors from the University of California, Riverside.
